Being different has never tasted so good! As the only restaurant in the area that focuses on whole foods, it's no wonder that The Orchard has blossomed into a bustling business over the years.
Opened in 1988 by Chef Jim Hickey and his wife, Eileen, The Orchard is a family-run restaurant that forgoes fancy presentation and concentrates instead on using the freshest ingredients to create a variety of flavorful, made-from-scratch meals. Offering numerous vegetarian and vegan options, including at least one vegan soup, one vegan salad dressing, and one vegan dessert every day, and always willing to substitute tofu for many of the meat-based menu items, The Orchard is an oasis for visiting vegetarians.
"We are not afraid of flavor," boasts Chef Jim-and it shows in the many palate-pleasing polyethnic stir-fries for which the restaurant is famous. Served with brown rice or soba noodles and tossed with tofu or vegetables, The Orchard's must-try stir-fries include the Creole, with its spicy tomato and black olive sauce; the Indonesian, which features a spicy peanut-lime sauce; and the Polynesian, which has a spicy ginger sauce with pineapples.
Between the excellent food and the welcoming décor of natural woods and bright colors, The Orchard is the perfect place to take your taste buds after a day of perusing the many art galleries and shops that flourish in picturesque downtown Frederick.
