Partying in Pensacola? Then slide into Sluggo's—a live music venue with an awesome all-vegan menu!
With “a passion for vegan food and the vegan frontier and a joy to share it,” co-owners Terry Johnson and Ashley Krey turned their dream of opening a vegan café into a reality two and a half years ago. A cool, kitschy joint decked out in booths, chandeliers, and light fixtures that were in vogue when polyester ruled and disco was king, Sluggo’s has a menu that’s just as eclectic as its ’70s décor.
For “food you want when you and your vegan friends are out late watching a band and get the munchies,” the Macho Nachos—a big bed of tortilla chips smothered with homemade spicy TVP chili, a yummy nutritional yeast “cheez” sauce, tofu sour cream, and fresh sliced avocado—are a must-have. If sandwiches are more your style, we highly recommend the Club, piled high with homemade marinated seitan, smoked tofu bacon, lettuce, tomato, and “truckstop cheez,” or the café’s vegan version of a classic Reuben, served with garlic mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy and a big kosher pickle.
If dinner is more your thing, dig into delicious TVP tacos served with rice, fresh salsa cruda, lettuce, tofu sour cream, and “cheez,” or help yourself to the Veggie Plate—a hearty, healthy helping of fresh seasonal vegetables served with warm cornbread. While these and other mouthwatering menu mainstays keep customers coming back for more, Sluggo’s daily specials are second to none. Offered Tuesdays through Saturdays, blue plate specials include barbecue seitan with mashed potatoes, fresh corn on the cob, and homemade coleslaw; gourmet chili “cheez” or Caribbean jerk dawgs; South of the Border-themed cuisine with tamales; or a sushi menu, featuring an assortment of soups, appetizers, rolls, and platters.
