Old Dog New Trick Café
Old Dog New Trick Café: Guilt-Free Pleasure in the Big Easy If you’re heading down to New Orleans to eat, drink, and be merry, the Old Dog New Trick Café is a great place to recharge between Mardi Gras parades, sight-seeing, and bar-hopping. Located in the French Quarter, the Old Dog New Trick Café serves up vegetarian home-cooking that draws both natives and tourists. Its veggie burgers and whole-wheat vegetable pizzas are popular staples, but they also have exotic entrées like Tempehbrauten, Tempeh Teriyaki, and Udon Noodle Bowl. “Their TLT is dynamite,” wrote a recent visitor of the tempeh, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. The tempeh is marinated, grilled, and served on toast with lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onions, and canola “mayo.” If you are lucky enough to make it to the restaurant’s weekend brunch, don’t miss the Tofu Rancheros (sans the cheddar), “Woofles” topped with fresh fruit, and the Potato Frittata with Red Pepper Sauce (hold the goat cheese, please). Since all desserts are vegan (and delicious!), we strongly recommend that you save some room. For something light and refreshing, go with the Hibiscus Mint Sorbet or the Strawberry Layer Cake. For more decadence, try the German Chocolate Brownies or Sara’s Savannah Cake with its chocolate-mousse topping and caramel sauce. If you aren’t able to make it to New Orleans any time soon, try these Louisiana-style recipes at home. |
