Vegan Paradise in Pennsylvania

Mock shrimp coated with coconut flakes, flash-fried to golden perfection and served on a bed of baby spinach and rice; creamy, garlicky hummus flecked with sun-dried tomatoes; hearty vegetable stew, rich with tomatoes and redolent of woodsy rosemary—have we got your attention? If the descriptions of these vegan delights whet your appetite, Maggie's Mercantile in Pittsburgh is the place for you!

Maggie's in Pittsburgh is decidedly different from the original Maggie's Mercantile located on Route 711 in Stahlstown—although both dish up some of the freshest, most flavorsome food you’ll ever find. At the Stahlstown deli café, guests can sample a variety of vegan dishes, such as luscious lasagna, basil-broccolini quiche, barbecued tofu, sesame noodles, dark chocolate-raspberry cake, and creamy soy ice cream. Can’t decide? Order a little of this, a little of that—you pay by weight.

On Sundays, Maggie's in Stahlstown serves up an ethnic buffet brunch that can’t be beat, with a different theme every month. For some patrons, brunch at Maggie's is a weekly ritual, and they don’t mind traveling long distances to enjoy the internationally inspired spread.

Maggie's Mercantile in Pittsburgh is the Stahlstown site’s upscale city cousin, featuring full table service in a serene, aqua-blue setting. But owner Maggie Raphael’s commitment to offering guests outstanding vegan fare remains constant.

Maggie's Pittsburgh menu includes pizzas, wraps, entrée salads, and treats for the little ones, such as tofu “chicken” nuggets and veggie dogs. Two of the most popular menu items are the tangy buffalo “chicken” and the spinach-porcini mushroom pie. For dessert, there’s silky soy ice cream, dairy-free cheesecake, gooey brownies, and sinfully rich chocolate cake.

Whether you’re in the mood for a sophisticated dinner, a quick deli take-out, or a leisurely Sunday brunch, there’s something for you at Maggie's Mercantile.
