Vegetarian Texans Get a Tasty Treat

Mad Dogs San Antonio is a little taste of British “pub grub” with a healthy mix of vegan goodies. Originally opened in British Hong Kong by expatriate Scots, Mad Dogs restaurants know how to blend traditions. At their only location in the United States, old-style British food comes together with new-style American fare near the most popular tourist attraction in Texas!

After you’re done soaking up the spectacular sights of the famous San Antonio Riverwalk, you can sit down to dinner before you stand up and party at Mad Dogs. Mingle with friendly staff in a fun environment while you decide between healthy vegan menu choices and mouth-watering beers. Even as you linger over (or chug) your first drink, you can enjoy Mad Dogs’ exclusive Deep South Spiced Rice. Described by Mad Dog’s manager, Julie Connell, as “the color and flavor of the American deep South,” this rice medley features peppers, chilis, tomatoes, and kidney beans sautéed with Cajun spices and fresh herbs. You can even add lightly fried tofu for a special treat.

If Cajun food’s not for you, Mad Dogs San Antonio offers other unique tongue-tingling flavors. Customers aren’t disappointed when they take the time to enjoy a bowl of spicy Mediterranean red pepper and chili soup topped with vegan sour cream or tofu-and-vegetable mini-kebabs. These healthy devils are served with peanut sauce and are made by spearing smoked tofu with red and yellow peppers, button mushrooms, and zucchini. And for all you spinach freaks, Mad Dogs offers a yummy salad of baby spinach tossed with lightly fried tofu, pine nuts, and sesame oil.

All in all, if you’re a Texas vegetarian hankering for karaoke and live music or even if you just want to take home a cute little Beanie bulldog, Mad Dogs San Antonio is the place for you.

Oh, and did we mention the waiters wear kilts?
