Chicago, IL 60622

Chicago’s Green Zebra is a fresh, fun departure from the hustle and bustle of city life—an opportunity to enjoy creative vegetarian cuisine in a soothing, contemporary atmosphere. Manager Greg Morrissey likes diners to use all their senses while dining, taking the time to enjoy and revel in their dining experience. He wants it to be fun, with a fresh and surprising menu and a friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff.

Green Zebra’s menu, designed by the award-winning trio of chef Shawn McClain and co-owners Sue Kim-Drohomyrecky and Peter Drohomyrecky, is influenced by the owners’ international travels, with a strong East-meets-West flavor. Some dishes are vegan, and many can be made so upon request. With tantalizing treats like the California Inside-Out Roll, Canadian Wild Rice and Barley Cake, sweet potato dumplings, celery root soup, pumpkin soup, and Shiitake Mushroom Roll, your taste buds will be blown away by this Windy City wonder. Morrissey says that reactions to Green Zebra’s vegan fare have been very positive, noting that “the flavors are so powerful that the majority of our guests are unaware that they are eating vegan dishes.”

The California Inside-Out Roll, Green Zebra’s most popular vegan dish, is prepared like a sushi roll, with avocado, almond paste, chili garlic sauce, mung bean sprouts, scallions, and daikon radishes, all wrapped in nori seaweed and cucumber and rolled in freshly grated coconut, served with a sauce of coconut milk, yuzu, orange juice, and freshly grated wasabi. The sweet potato dumplings are handmade with a purée of Okinawan sweet potato and ginger and served in a star anise broth with fresh pea sprouts and water chestnuts.

The Green Zebra’s decor is as cultured and eclectic as its food, with an earth-toned color scheme and jazz music to accentuate the dining experience. The restaurant features a private dining space that can accommodate parties of up to 40 people.
