Folks have been flocking to the Flying Biscuit Café for made-from-scratch Southern comfort food with a healthy twist since 1993. With two locations in Atlanta that offer several vegetarian and vegan options, owner Delia Champion puts her lifetime of restaurant experience (dating back to her childhood, much of which was spent at her family’s New Jersey tap room) and her love of fresh food to work with delicious results.
Described by Champion as “hip, in-town storefront café[s] … frequented by loyal local customers as well as mega-celebrities,” both Flying Biscuit Café locations feature eclectic and cheerful decorations. The Candler Park café’s adjoining bakery offers your Flying Biscuit favorites to go, while the Midtown location has a corner patio for “al fresco” dining and people-watching.
“[G]uests are all open to hearty, healthy options and love to try new menu items,” says Champion, adding that her meatless menu items “have converted many a carnivore.” The most popular vegan item is the Vegan Southern-Style Burrito, which is a sun-dried tomato tortilla stuffed with barbecued tofu, spicy collard greens, and mushrooms and topped with tomatillo salsa. For breakfast, try the Scrambled Tofu—tamari-marinated tofu sautéed with baby spinach, mushrooms, sweet Vidalia onions, and red and green peppers and served with an organic field-green salad. Friday nights feature a three-course dinner with organic wine pairings—vegan options are always available. For a taste that’s uniquely Flying Biscuit, order up a helping of the fried black-bean Love Cakes (hold the sour cream and feta cheese).
From the hearty breakfasts that are served all day to the to-die-for desserts (try the tempting, chocolaty ‘Little Devil’ Cupcakes, but don’t blame us if you can’t stop at one), the Flying Biscuit Café can fill you up morning, noon, and night. Both locations open early and close late, so whether you’re up for having an early breakfast, grabbing a midday bite, or winding down after a night out in Atlanta, the Biscuit crew’s got your back.
