We Have a Hunch You’ll Love This Brunch

What has seven heads, 14 arms, and fabulous food? The Ashton family’s A Country Life in Boston, Massachusetts!

Move over Ponderosa and Family Buffet, this cafeteria-style restaurant has something for everyone and at very reasonable prices, too (under $6.00 for lunch and under $7.00 for dinner). The difference: The entire menu is healthy, homemade, and 100 percent vegan!

For 16 years, the Ashton family (two parents and five offspring) has been dishing out food, and their menu includes almost every type of cuisine. They serve Indian pockets, pasta Alfredo, Salisbury “steak,” tofu teriyaki, and Mexican enchiladas—to name a few! Sometimes they combine different styles for outstanding results—such as their Hawaiian-style barbecue.

“I love the ‘help yourself’ style—you can try everything,” raves W. Fritz to “PETA Eats.” “Their salad bar is out of this world, too.”

The scrumptious Sunday brunch includes tofu scramble, whole wheat waffles with syrup, French toast, a fruit bar, and freshly baked muffins. “Their food is so delicious that no one would guess that it is healthy,” Fritz writes. “You can stuff yourself silly and still feel good … sleepy, but good.”

There are Country Life restaurants, health food stores, and bakeries throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Other United States locations include Keene, New Hampshire; Columbus, Georgia; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Pullman, Michigan; and San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. Country Life has its own vegan cookbook called A Country Life.
